Location Selection in Vending Investment: 10 Criteria That Define the Right Spot
We explain why high foot traffic alone is not enough and which criteria should be reviewed when choosing the right location.
When evaluating a vending investment, one of the first questions is usually machine price. Yet the factor that most often determines performance is the location itself. Even the most advanced machine may not perform well in the wrong spot.
Why is high traffic not enough on its own?
A high number of people passing through a space is a positive sign, but users also need to notice the machine, be able to stop and have a real product need at that moment. A fast-moving corridor and a waiting area do not create the same behavior.
10 criteria to review when choosing a location
- User profile: Whether the audience is made up of employees, visitors, students or travelers directly affects product selection.
- Pedestrian traffic: Not only the volume, but also which hours are busiest during the day matters.
- Dwell time: Lobbies, waiting zones and shared-use spaces can support buying decisions.
- Visibility: The machine should be easy to notice from the main direction of movement.
- Accessibility: Users should be able to stop comfortably in front of the machine and complete a transaction with ease.
- Product-location fit: Not every product answers the same need in every location.
- Existing alternatives: Nearby shops, cafes and other machines must be reviewed.
- Technical infrastructure: Electricity, internet and the required physical space should be confirmed.
- Restocking access: Field teams need a workable approach area to refresh products.
- Rent and cost balance: Location cost matters as much as revenue potential.
Does the ideal location change by product type?
Yes. Snack and beverage vending machines can create convenient access in offices, production areas and educational institutions. Flower vending solutions may answer a different type of need in plazas, hospitals, shopping areas and high-visitor locations.
The strongest approach: on-site assessment
Location selection should not be finalized only from a desk. Pedestrian flow, visibility, technical infrastructure and restocking access should be examined on site.
VendiWin follows an on-site assessment approach when evaluating the machine and product solution that best fits a location.
